Local MP visits Intelligent Energy’s production facilities
Loughborough – 5th July 2023 – Jane Hunt, Conservative MP for Loughborough, visited our production facilities to witness our first 100kW automotive hydrogen fuel cell system start testing prior to installation in an SUV next month.
The IE-DRIVE™ 100 passenger vehicle product is designed around 20 years of development in the East Midlands. The design is already sold in a heavy-duty configuration for customers in South Korea, UK, U.S., EU, and Taiwan.
CEO, David Woolhouse, Operations Director, Martin Schaefer and Head of External Affairs, Dennis Hayter showed Jane around the factory, focusing on the manufacturing area where IEL’s high-power hydrogen fuel cell systems are built.
Intelligent Energy has now developed two 100kW+ automotive IE-DRIVE product lines. The IE-DRIVE™ 100 has been developed as a passenger car engine, whilst the IE-DRIVE™ HD100 is suited for heavy-duty applications including buses, trucks, trains and powerplant applications.
With 250 employees, the Loughborough-based company manufactures zero emission hydrogen fuel cell systems that produce only clean electricity and water. The products help customers and partners to achieve their net zero ambitions.

Intelligent Energy’s plans to develop manufacturing capacity around the world for not only automotive products, but also 300kW aero engines, warehouse truck battery-replacements and drones were also discussed.
